Likely bursitis: Sounds like inflammation of the prepatellar bursa (flattened sac that provides protective layer between knee and skin). Usually a result of prolonged kneeling or other "wear-and-tear". Rest (avoid kneeling) and sometimes a knee wrap for protection is helpful. If no contraindications, can use nsaids for inflammation. See a physician for an exam to be sure.
