R/O THYROID NODULE: Midline neck enlargement is worisome. You need a full lab work up to rule out /Thyroid nodule/ lymphoma/lipoma/sarcoidosis. U.S. OF THYROID AND NECK . CT SCAN Of chest/Abd/pelvis and a gallium scan may be needed. Eventually the area will need to be biopsied to make a pathological diagnosis of biopsy is negative, exploratory neck surgery may be needed .

The most common: reason for a midline mass in that location in a young person is a benign thyroglossal duct cyst. It is congenital. It may not become clinically apparent until inflammed. Ultrasound and/or CT will be confirmatory and rule out adenopathy.
