A member asked:

Can you please explain why hypothyroidism is more common in women than men?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Autoimmune: Most hypothyroidism is from hashimoto's thyroiditis, which is autoimmune. Many autoimmune diseases are more common in women (eg. Graves, lupus, rheum arthritis, ms). There is a genetic tendency also. The reason why your body decides to attach part of yourself is not known.
