Shingles?: Pain of this type on one side can be due to shingles (reactivation of varicella virus that causes chicken pox). This would be a good time to ensure any close contacts are immune (vaccination or previous chicken pox).

Nerve irritation: This type of thing is often due to problems with a nerve. If you have had a rash there or some other inflammation, this can happen afterwards. I would get an exam from your doctor to evaluate what might be going on and get checked for diabetes or vitamin deficiencies that might cause this.
