A 17-year-old female asked:

how much is my brain damaged if i have been addicated to caffeine for 10 years? ex. i drink energy drinks and pop on a daily basis if i don't i can't think or wake up

Probably no damage: It is conceivable that extraordinary quantities of caffeine could produce brain damage, but not likely. Excessive use or "addiction" may cause problems, even possible brain changes, but these would not be classified as "damage." You may be painting a picture of addiction, not actual damage -- this could be better addressed by a professional evaluation.

My friend says that since she knows someone who has the same condition as I and functions well day to day, I should stop acting disabled and get on with my life. What if she's right?

Rarely true: When a patient (or friend) states to "know someone with the exact same symptoms" as themselves, rarely is it true as everyone's individual situation is different. Best to consult with your doctor and not your friends.

Not likely: Wilson's disease is caused by the loss of an enzyme that allows copper to accumulate in the body. Most of this is taken up by the liver, causing lots of liver problems. It can also affect the nervous system. However, most of the nervous problems are motor, with some personality changes possible as well. Memory is not typically affected.

They aren't the same: Mci involves impairment in one area of brain functioning more than one would expect for your age and previous level of functioning. The impairment can be in memory, judgement, ability to reason or language. Some people who have mci will later develop dementia so it is thought of as a predementia state. Not everyone with mci will develop dementia.
