A member asked:

Does it ever happen that a doctor know for sure someone has a bipolar disorder?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Usually yes: A good psychiatric evaluation which includes the history, collateral information and the interview as well as a comprehensive medical evaluation and oftentimes laboratory work gives the doctor sufficient data to confirm such a diagnosis. The doctor also includes something we call the differential diagnosis in his diagnostic work up.
