My eyes swell up a lot during and after crying, sometimes lasting for more than 24 hours after. could this be a kind of allergic reaction?

Unlikely: Swelling of the area around the eyes is typical after crying and can persist for longer than a day. A contact allergy would likely involve swelling that persisted for longer than this. Environmental allergies can cause swelling, but it would not change in nature in relation to crying.
