Only because: having one immune mediated disease like IBD puts you at risk of possibly having other autoimmune disease like MS. But please don't cry, as the risk is quite small. I treat more than 80 patients with ulcerative colitis, and not one has MS.

"Increased"not"High": Let's say that for every 100,000 people in the U.S., there are 10 with MS (100 cases per million). Let's say also that people with IBD are 1.7 times as likely to have MS. Then, for each 100,000 people with IBD, there are 17 with MS. The risk of having MS may be increased for people with IBD, but it is not high.
