Rule out pregnancy: It could be an irregular period due to pregnancy, threatened miscarriage or infection. It could also be due to hormonal exposure from birth control. See your doctor.

See below: There are a number of reasons for spotting or abnormal bleeding or menstruation. Most of the causes are NOT due to any serious condition such as cancer.
