A member asked:

Hey recently my bf had his colonoscopy done and it was identified that three apthoid ulcer were found measuring 1 mm in the terminal ileum. biopsies were obtained but the biopsies reports says that they cannot identify the problem. do i need to worry ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ileum ulcers: In general, you should not have to worry. Aphthous ulcers in the ileum can have many underlying causes, including infection, autoimmune, medication (pills usually) and idiopathic (inflammatory bowel disease.) Depending on the symptoms that led to the colonoscopy, further work-up or trial therapies may lead to more specific answers. Cancer not likely on the list at his age.
