Getting ready : it is not uncommon to have contractions that start and stop near term. One common cause of this is dehydration. The hormone that is released when you are thirsty (antidiuretic hormone, ADH (vasopressin)) is very similar in structure to oxytocin the hormone that stimulates contractions, if you were dehydrated and had ADH (vasopressin) stimulating contractions then if you hydrated yourself they would likely go away.
