Need testing: for strep. Strep throat left untreated for more than 7 days can result in rheumatic fever which can potentially cause permanent damage to your heart (rheumatic heart disease). The red spots in the back of the throat are commonly seen with gonorrhea, so if you have had oral sex, you should be tested for gonorrhea also. Most sore throats are caused by viruses but strep & GC should be ruled out.
