A member asked:

Can chronic gastritis/stomach irritation without h pylori cause stomach cancer? how likely is it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not common: The origin of most stomach cancers seen today are near upper cardio esophageal site. The h pylori is needed since the gastritis and resulting ulcer are healed from bone marrow stem cells migrating to ulcer site. The h pylori toxin induces malignant transformation. It is rare for the inflammatory process to induce Ca without a secondary form of intervention.
