A member asked:

Every 2/3 weeks i have thick mucous in and around my stool. it's sticky, quite thick, and has the consistency of rubber cement. what is it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Human Glue Factory: Mucus in the stool is a normal lubricant for passage and ejection but grossly visible amounts indicate some form of irritation or inflammation, unless this is just a normal variance for you. The serious causes are usually accompanied by some pain or cramps and maybe some blood. The consistency of the mucus has a lot to do with hydration. Do you take enough fluids?? See someone about this problem.
