Complex: Complex set of symptoms. Yes gum infection could go to other areas. Best advice is to see oral surgeon for diangosis/treatment.

Swelling/pain: Yes, if there is an infection it may spread. If caused by infected teeth may need to see Endodontist or Oral Surgeon. If from gum infection, see a Periodontist. If symptoms progress, ask your Dentist to refer you on to appropriate Specislist.
