Nerves in dura: It is true that there are no nerves in the brain that sense pain. However, there are nerves in the linings of the brain, the dura that have pain modalities. A tumor can irritate the dura and register as pain. Tumors also cause local and global swelling. This leads to increased intracranial pressure that is distributed throughout the brain. This can lead to pressure on the dura which can be sensed.
