A member asked:

Which systems does alzheimer's disease affect?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The brain: Currently the thought is that Alzheimer is the result of amyloid plaques, Tau protein, deposited in the brain creating neurofibrillary tangles and impacting the neuro signaling process and causing wasting and deterioration of the brain and body. Course of the disease is progressive and leads to end stage within ten years. Some genetic predisposition is suggested, and no known cure exists.
