Effective but...: Pravachol (pravastatin) below to the class of lipid lowering agents called Statins. Statins are effective in preventing heart disease, but a big component of effectiveness is in lowering inflammation and not just treating cholesterol. There are some downsides to Statins including liver abnormality, muscle ache and some cases of increasing diabetes risk. See Your Vibrant Heart book.
