How effective is a laparoscopic surgery for treating colon cancer?

Depends: Laparoscopic surgery is highly effective for removing all or portions of the colon. Treatment of the cancer is dependent on how early/advanced the disease process is. It is a good idea to be in a location where a multidisciplinary approach to the cancer can be done - experienced laparoscopic surgeons, oncologists, radiation oncologists, and diagnostic radiologists can all help.
