How effective is therapeutic hypothermia for treating cardiac arrest?

Cardiac arrest: Hypothermia doesn't treat cardiac arrest. If the patient has been resuscitated from cardiac arrest and is now alive, hypothermia can help improve eventual survival to hospital discharge and with better function assuming survival. How effective it is, is still an open question.
