Viral infection: Most likely a viral infection. Not having a spleen predisposes you to infection by capsular bacteria but you need not be too concerned at this time unless you started to have green nasal discharge or a high fever (>102 F). Be sure to get immunized regularly with Prevnar (pneumococcal vaccine) and Pneumovax . Need to be treated promptly if you have symptoms of bacterial sinus infection which may follow a cold.
