Variation: There is some normal variation in cycle length depending primarily on how long it takes the egg to mature. If it matures faster the period comes earlier and, because there is less time for the lining to grow before progesterone which is produced after ovulation starts telling it to stop growing and get mature, the period tends to be lighter.
