A member asked:

What are the differences between a menstrual period and early pregnancy bleeding?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Significant: A menstrual period is the sloughing away of the thickened uterine lining that occurs due to hormonal changes resulting when no conception occurs. Early pregnancy bleeding can be due to some irritation to the lining of the uterus as the early embryo implants into the uterus, can be due to friable cervical cells, or other factors related to the embryo implanting into the uterus.
