Meds for congestion : Antihistamines usually do not help congestion. A doctor would need to know how long you've been congested and whether you have a sore throat, clear or yellow discharge, itching etc. is it a cold, sinusitis or allergies ? Generally, phenylrphrine, pseudoephedrine and Afrin are used short term for congestion. Chronic cases : evaluate nasal structure, allergies , rule out infection by exam and/or CT.
