Mirena (levonorgestrel): Not having periods is one of the great side effects of Mirena (levonorgestrel). Up to 50% of users experience this within 1 year of use. Mirena (levonorgestrel) will prevent ovulation in some users but that is not its main mechanism of action to present pregnancy. It works primarily by killing sperm at the level of cervical mucous.
