Cracked toenail: May be fungal infection. See a podiatrist, as can be treated with medication- lamisil, (terbinafine) topical penlac or laser

Step on a crack.: The answer is based on the cause of the crack, if there is one. Is the crack due to a weakness caused by a diseased nail such a fungus infection or caused by trauma. If the crack is not too long and not infected or thickened by fungus, one can try using super glue. I would seek the advice of a foot specialist before trying the glue first.
