Continue workup: This is GI bleeding from an ulcer until proved otherwise. If your current hematologist can't find anything or direct the general medical workup, get a consult. Mom is fortunate to have a son who's so devoted and caring.

My haptoglobin level is elevated, at 2.65 g/L (ref. 0.17-2.00). Is this in and of itself a cause for concern (e.g. cancer)? I have also been experiencing low iron/hemoglobin/hematocrit for some time. Kidney/liver function normal. GI tract is clear.
Is 8 weeks of iron infusions enough? Ater this time hemoglobin decreased to 7.6. As a result, i had a blood transfusion.
