my son is toilet training but continues to hole in his poos making them hard and painful when he eventually goes how can i stop him holding them in?

Diaper: Wear underwear, but teach him to ask for a diaper to "poo". Once he is dry, there are ways to wean him from the diaper.

Dietary fiber: I encourage parents to boost fiber in the diet (esp. Fruits/vegies) when starting toilet training. The soft stools will be much easier to pass, especially in a child just learning, than a formed stool.
