Congrats on exercise: You can also consider a new food plan, perhaps low carb. Check w/your doc. Write it down and stick to it. You can do well. Peace and good health.

Weight gain: To lose weight insure that calories burned > calories consumed. Drink at least 8 - 8 oz glasses of water per day. Try for 8 hours of sleep/night. Aim for at least 5 servings of vegetables & 4 servings of fruit per day. Use whole grain when possible. Avoid sodas, alcohol & junk carbohydrates. Get in a good mix of aerobic & weight lifting exercises.

Why the weight gain?: When there is new onset of weight gain, one question is "Why". If no clear reason, medical workup is advisable. For steady weight gain after marriage, sometimes the reason is meal size/makeup; if both eat the same size meal but have different caloric needs, one will have a change in weight. It is OK to eat different amounts from each otherl. Sometimes it is activity change; less active=eat less.
