At their own risk: This question could probably be raised about everyone, not just people with lung conditions like asthma. Asthmatics are at increased risks given their underlying poor lung function. Smoking can cause their asthma to worsen, increase number of flares, and make their asthma refractory to daily controller therapy. Everyone, including asthmatics, should be encouraged to quit if they are current smoker

Personal choice: The addictive nature of many products dull the rational choice of many adults. Alcoholics drink themselves to death, drug addicts often know they are in trouble but use anyway.Smokers do so because they want to, not because it's smart & most have an acquired brain defect where they can't recognize that it is bad.
