Morphine & Codeine: If morphine causes you respiratory arrest, then you should stay away from codeine. Codeine is the lowest rung of the narcotics opiates ladder. Darvocet used to be the lowest rung of the ladder but was removed from the market 5+ years ago. Next up from Codeine is hydrocodone.
