A member asked:

How do you treat a deep cut to the top of a finger? we put a bandage + antibiotics over it, when should we expect bleeding to stop?

Depend on how deep: The amount of bleeding depend on how the cut is. Is it a sliced on top of the finger? Is is at the joint line and how deep. If it is a deep cut, then go to the ER and have the physician look at it and explore to make sure no tendons and nerves have been damaged.

How deep: it depend how deep,if it is deep you have to make sure it is not involving a tendon,if it is close to the joint it is going to take longer to heal ,specially without suture.bleeding will stop in few minutes with pressure, constant pressure, apply ice as well, assuming you are no on any blood thinner.keep it clean and dry, apply topical antibiotic, any sign of infection,go and see your doctor.

See remark: I can not ascertain the depth of the cut. Are you treating yourself ? All bleeding will stop ,but if I were you I will seek help as soon as feasible. You are young and you have a long yrs ahead of you.
