Occasional?: If it's just an occasional pain, it's likely just a "muscle stitch" (spasm). It's nothing to be worried about. If it's more than occasional, you should be evaluated - see your family doctor for testing.

Pinched nerves: Pinching of the intercostal nerves which run between two ribs is a cause of fleeting sharp pains on inspiration. These usually subside without any specific treatment. Avoid any activities that strain your rib cage. If symptoms worsen or persist, have your Physician examine and advise you and possibly rib cage xrays May be ordered.

Likely muscle pains: this is likely pains in intercostal muscles, as they would be painful with breathing. Spine problem could be another reason. Pleura also may cause these pains, but less likely on both sides of the chest. I recommend seeing a healthcare professional if pain continue
