Start of a cold?: Sore throats are most commonly the start of a cold. They usually go away in a few days. Sucrets throat losenges and hot beverages/showers are a great way to relieve the pain and help you swallow. If you develop a fever > 100.4 along with the sore throat, or it doesn't go away, you may need antibiotics. Most sore throats without fever are caused by viruses and antibiotics don't kill viruses.

Pharyngitis: You may have pharyngitis, if it is viral it may get better on its own. If does not get better have it checked out to rule out bacterial source or other lesions.
