A member asked:

Can straining for a bowel movement worsen a shortened cervix? am 30 wks with 2.5 cm cervix and chronic constipation with hard stools & strain at times

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Strain: Usually don't recommend straining because can lead to hemorrhoids etc. With a shortened cervix the worry is about preterm labor so straining should be avoided as much as possible. Consider MIRALAX (polyethylene glycol) 2 scoops a day to help improve your constipation and avoid straining.
