Minimal changes: if you do not have your top retainer for a few weeks but if you do not replace it for a long time, the teeth may shift back to their original positions, reversing the straightening it had already achieved. See your dentist/orthodontist as soon as you can to get another retainer fitted/replaced.

Lost retainer: Your lower teeth will remain straight. Your upper teeth will begin to destabilize. Call the practitioner who treated you, explain your problem, and follow their recommendations for replacing the lost retainer. They may want to see you the day you get back. Also, if you lost one retainer but not the other probably means you are not wearing retainers as directed. Please review your compliance.
