Cough: The severity of lung inflammation/infections, depends on more than just cough and mucus production. If you are short of breath, have chest pains with the cough or deep breaths and fevers, I would say the inflammation and possible infection is severe and you should seek your doctor. If just a cough with mucus production, can be from allergies to bronchitis/COPD or even Asthma, to name a few.
