An Ovarian cyst: forms during each menstrual cycle, it is a fluid-filled sac that contains a maturing egg. It usually disappears not long after it releases the egg. If an egg is not released or if the sac reseals after releasing the egg, the sac can swell up with fluid. Most functional ovarian cysts do not cause symptoms and resolve without treatment, but can occasionally rupture causing pain and/or bleeding.
