Seek second opinion: Must see a radiograph and do a clinical examination to answer. Go for a second opinion if you feel uncomfortable with the diagnosis. It may be more cost effective to extract the tooth and place an implant, if the tooth is deemed non-salvagable. If it is restorable, crown lengthening procedure, possible root canal and post and possible new crown may be options.

Hard to say...: ... your dentist has examined the tooth and together with the help of a radiograph s/he has determined that the tooth is unrestorable. Without knowing the extent of the decay or the periodontal condition of the tooth, it is difficult to dispute the diagnosis. If you feel otherwise, then a second opinion from another dentist who can examine you would be wise.

Second opinion: In many cases, seeking a second opinion is not only warranted, but necessary. Unless your disease is life threatening and requires emergency care, it is never a bad idea to seek a second opinion. Getting a second opinion helps you feel more confident about your diagnosis and treatment plan. Ask your PCP.
