A member asked:

I have a small abscess on my finger. it is still under the surface but is very painful. should i put warm compressors and bactroban (mupirocin) on it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Abscess: Soaking this frequently in warm to hot water or use of compresses will help to bring this to the surface and allow it to be drained, if it really is a boil forming. The best thing to do is to let your PCP see this. Possible that it is actually a herpetic Whitlow, or something other than an abscess.
