Same symptoms: but causes are different, common cold is due to viruses while allergic rhinitis is an inflammation in the internal lining of the nasal cavities due to specific allergens, e.g. pollens, both conditions can be treated by same medications, allergic rhinitis selected cases can receive immunotherapy against those specific allergens determined by the treating allergist
