Atypical, but safe: This is an unusual choice of drugs for this purpose. Normal preventive treatment would be a shot of ceftriaxone 250 mg or cefixime 400 mg by mouth; plus either one dose of azithromycin 1.0 g or doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for 7 days. This combination for 5 days probably will be effective, though. The two drugs together could cause stomach upset and/or diarrhea, but no serious safety problem.
