A member asked:

What usually causes cold sores in the mouth?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cold sores: Most cold sores are called aphthous ulcers. They are caused by a virus that the majority of the population has. There is no cure, it usually lays dormant in the nerve endings and erupts in an incident after stress, trauma or external stimulants. They usually last 7-10 days and there are meds that can lessen the duration and intensity. Herpes is another possibility. See a dentist to have evaluated.
