3-5 days: Viral infections last typically about 3-5 days of fever. I am not sure why you think it is from overheating. Bacterial infections may be likely if ear pain, severe cough, sore throat or smelly urine. Fevers > than 5 days or fevers > than 104 degrees should be evaluation without delay.
