A member asked:

Has anyone gotten infected with naegleria through dirt dust? and if so how?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Too rare to know: This ameba (amoeba) lives in warm water& rarely causes disease. If infected water is inhaled through the nose, it can travel up to the olfactory bulb & cause severe symptoms that resemble bacterial meningitis. There are only to have been about 300 known cases wold-wide of infection with this ameba, with over a third of those in the United States. Some of those people had no obvious exposure risks.
