Never reported: Naegleria fowleri, also known as the "brain eating amoeba," is a very rare infection typically contracted by swimming in contaminated water. There has never been a case of which I am aware which has been proven to be due to contact with saliva. Of the 130 or so known cases in the United States in the last 50 years, there have been only three survivors.
