A member asked:

Are antibiotics are helpful for any virus?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: The word "antibiotics" generally refers to antibacterial drugs, not antiviral nor antifungal. Antibiotics don't help or hurt viruses, so don't change the course of one's illness if all of one's symptoms are due to a viral infection. However, if one's viral infection is causing a "secondary bacterial infection", such as a middle ear infection, then antibiotics will help one's recovery from illness.
