Can zyrtec be used as prophylactic therapy like claritin (loratadine)? i never respond well to claritin (loratadine). i feel it doesn't prevent much and i wind up on zyrtec d.

Yes: it is not prophylactic, rather controller, but you used Zyrtec d, which has a decongestant, that's maybe why you felt the difference, which I believe would be the same if you used Claritin (loratadine) D, at any rate different drugs work differently with different people,
