EAR INFECTION:: Mainly 2 types of ear infections:. #1 otitis media or middle ear infection and #2. Otitis externa or external ear canal infection mostly called swimmer's ear. After antibiotic treatment of middle ear infection, Claritin (loratadine) or zyrtec is given for 4-6 weeks to help drying up or drainage of residual fluid in the middle ear. For otitis externa or swimmer's ear, antibiotic/combination ear drop is given.
