Heart beating hard: Several things come to mind - hyperthyroidism can make you feel shaky and have a fast heartbeat. Being anemic or too low or high blood sugar might cause the same symptoms. Recreational drug use - cocaine can also cause this along with recent use of pseudoephedrine for nasal congestion may also cause this. I would await the EKG and ask for a CBC, basic metabolic profile and a TSH for lab
